A GI Tag is a sign/indication that is used on products that have a specific geographical origin & possess the quality or reputation that are due to that particular origin.
GI Tags in India – Significance
Just like the intellectual properties rights served by Copyright, Patent, Trademark, etc, Geographical Indication Tag also provides similar rights & protection to the holders.
A Geographical Indication right enables those who have the right to use the indication to prevent its use by a third party whose product does not conform to the applicable standards.
